I am totally lagging on post of my Brooklyn trip adventures. To be totally honest, I have very few photographs to choose from to put up on the ‘ol blog. Kind of mad at myself for not taking more pictures, but I was so busy running all over the place it just slipped my mind. Thank goodness for my mental images, but sorry I cannot beam them from my head to your heads for your viewing pleasure. Technology just has not come that far yet. Not sure what the hold up is. Geez humans, get with it.
So, I thought I would start off my Brooklyn post series by talking about one of my favorite things: FOOD! I ate some darn good food in NYC. Also, some not so good food. If you ever make your way over to Brooklyn, here is my guide to eating out (from the point of view of a tourist. I am sure if I were a New Yorker there would be a million more places to add to the list. But I am not, so deal with it).
Day One
Coffee at Variety Cafe (North Side Williamsburg Hood)- My babe of a gal pal Jess works here. They serve Stumptown Coffee and the baristas kick bootay. Order a cortado, they are magnificent.

Breakfast at Egg (Williamsburg Hood)- OH MAN!! This place was sooooo good. They have their own farm where they grow veggies and raise some animals for the restaurant. They pride themselves on sourcing from local farms and businesses and you can taste it in the quality. I ordered their organic grits and eggs. It came with a side of seasonal kale that was steamed and sauteed to perfection. Washed it down with a fresh squeezed mimosa; it was truly amazing.
Dinner at My Moon (Williamsburg Hood)- Eh. this place was ok. They had a nice patio area that would be amazing to have drinks at in the warmer months, but other than that this place was nothing to write home about.
Day Two
Late Breakfast at Brooklyn Label (Greenpoint Hood)- Also serving Stumptown Coffee, I enjoyed this little cafe. I went simple here; over easy eggs and hash browns. The hash browns were made from scratch and were delicious. I believe they make their own hot sauce, which was some good, HOT stuff. It was some of the best hot sauces to hit these lips in awhile.

Dinner at The General Green (Fort Greene Hood)- This place was heaven. Especially for a Gluten Free gal like myself. They had tons of fresh food to choose from. Kate and Jess ordered a hamburger and said it was one of the best they have ever had. Kate keeps talking about that hamburger even though we have been back in Portland for a week now. Jess, who lives near by, could not stop talking about their candied bacon (served at breakfast). This was one of my favorite spots in Brooklyn.
Day Three
Brunch at River Barrel (Greenpoint Hood)- Have you ever had the Korean dish Bibimbap? If not, you must try it. It is rice, veggies, and an egg that comes in hot stone bowl. The rice that is touching the sides of the bowl gets all brown and crispy. I was so happy to see this dish on the menu and about back flipped over it. River Barrel serves American comfort food and some traditional Korean dishes. Yummy stuff.
Dinner at Shabu-Tatsu (East Village,Manhattan)- Japanese Hot Pot, how can you go wrong. You cook your own veggies, meat, and noodles in a broth which intensifies with flavor as the meal progresses. Don’t laugh, but since I loooove Bibimbap so much, I ordered it for dinner too. I could not help myself. I wanted to taste the Japanese version which reads and is pronounced Bibim-bop. I will tell you what, it was just as darn delicious as my Korean version early that day. Order shochu on the rocks with the salted plum to top the whole meal off.
Drinks at Sake Bar Decibel- an underground sake bar that seems like a secret spot, but it is not. The place was packed. I went for their Lychee Martinis because I don’t get to have them that often back in Portland. But their sake list is glorious.
Sally going in for a kiss at Decibel.
Day Five
Lunch at Lomzynianka (Greenpoint Hood)- The cutest Polish restaurant ever. Serving slavic comfort food, this little place is worth the stop. The atmosphere was sweet and the food was delicious.
The decor at Lomzynianka was pretty amazing.

Me. Hi.
Jess with her polish platter. She was very thankful for the food at Lomzynianka.
More to come on the trip (i.e. shopping and stuff), but bare with me. I am a lagger. Hope you all are having a radical week!
