Babe Party

Sunday August 22, 2010

I have the most amazing group of friends.  My girls put together a beautiful, classy, and fun filled Bachelorette Party for me.   There was no cheesy crowns, lamo decorations that are typically involved with Bachelorette parties and it is was perfect.  We started off with a party at our friends art studio.  We ate fine snacks, sipped sweet champagne and wine, and nibbled on mini cupcakes.  Then off to The Nines Hotel to their swanky roof top restaurant called Departure.  The view up there is pretty spectacular.  We headed over to Beauty Bar for a night cap and then back to the studio for the dance party of the year.  Thank you me ladies for the best Bachelorette Party ever!!

photoThis dress is one of my favorites.  It is by Shakuhachi.  My boyfriend gave it to me for   X-Mas last year. Aw what a lucky girl I am.

DSCN3218Check out this classy spread.  Mmmm Mmmm.

DSCN3211I love this picture of my good friend Kate. She is a cute little package.  Her dress is vintage and she just tied this sweet little piece of lace around it to make a belt.

think of summer

Sunday August 15, 2010

I am loving this summer heat Portland has been drenched with.  Loving it!  Even though I have been busy indoors with wedding projects and work, when the sun shines in the Northwest, I am a happy girl.

I found these lovely images on Ruffledblog.  I am digging this girl’s eye-make up and her style. That top she is wearing is freaking glorious with those floral shorts.  Her braids and heels are making me jealous. Hot damn.

I hope you all are enjoying the sun and getting your bronze on.  P.S. countdown 13 days to the BIG DAY. Wahooooo!

sweetness

Tuesday August 10, 2010

Meet Clara.  Every time I see this girl she is dressed adorably.  I managed to snap a few photos of her cute summer outfit the other day while visiting The English Department. There was something about this outfit that screamed French Riviera and made me want to go on vacation. Her look was simple, clean, and airy.  Of course I forgot my camera that day, so I was only able to shoot a few quick pics with my phone.

my what a busy week

Tuesday August 3, 2010

WOW.  This time of year is a mad house.  Production, Development, and Wedding; my brain is going bonkers with planning, organizing and keeping things on track. Whatever the case, I am thankful to have work and also to be planning a stellar wedding.  Even though these are crazy times, I have to pinch myself to remind myself that I am a very lucky lady.

Crazy times calls for easy outfits.  Thank goodness for jumpsuits. One piece of clothing equals one awesome outfit which is exactly what a busy gal like me needs.  I just can’t get enough of onesies.  L-O-V-E them!  I picked up this hot little number in Brooklyn, NY at a sweet little boutique in the Greenpoint area called Dalaga.  I have been meaning to give a shout out to this place for sometime.  I loved Dalaga’s offering and loved their price points.  The shop owner and sales associate were sweet as can be.  If you are ever in Brooklyn, go here.  Or if you are a web shopper, visit their website and tempt yourself with the loveliness.

The little red jumpsuit that could

Wednesday July 28, 2010

How rad does it feel to come across an amazing “find” at a thrift store or vintage shop? Sometimes you just stumble upon those pieces that were meant to fall into your hands. I think it is fate when this happens. Seriously.  There are so many times when you walk out of a thrift store empty handed (though that rarely happens with this girl; it is hard for me to pass up a good bargain if you know what I mean).  However, when you find the perfect fitting dress, top, pant, etc. you just have to wonder to your self, what if I came in a day or so later and missed this one? Sorry to get so sentimental on thrifting, but for those of you who head out into the world of vintage and thrift shopping, surely you are picking up what I am putting down.

So now about my little red jump suit that could.  I saw this piece in a thrift store in Montana.  The red color and sweet little mismatch buttons caught my eye.  Then I pulled it out of the rack and saw the back and holy hot dog, I knew I scored on this one. It was originally a pant jumpsuit, but I could just tell this one wanted to be shorts. And there you have it.  I turned this little baby into a cute shorted jumpsuit.

On that note, my recommendation of the week is to get out there in the thrifting/vintage world, rummage through the racks, and up-cycle those digs to suit your own personal taste.

I love summertime!  It makes me twirl with delight.  On musical note, I went to see my friend Nato’s band, The Drowning Men, play last night at Rotture and it was awesome. I am loving their song “Get a Heart”.   Also check out this band.  They played too and make beautiful music.

Art Attack

Monday July 19, 2010

Living in Portland, we P-towners are lucky enough to be surrounded by a darn good local art, music, and food scene.  It is a truly inspiring yet affordable city, so the draw of like minded people is inevitable.  Musicians, painters, designers and other creative folk flood this city with their beautiful creations. This is one of the reasons why I love it here so much.

Painter Evan B. Harris is one of these amazing people who call Portland their home base.  I was just recently introduced to this fine gentleman and fell in love with his paintings.  I find the muted colors he uses mysterious yet comforting.   My eyes dance in awe over each painting’s beautiful detail. Good stuff.

If you are in the market for some lovely artwork to adorn your walls, please go to Evan B. Harris’s Etsy Shop and have a look at his gallery.   Some of his lovely originals and prints are there for you to purchase.

Below are a few of Evan’s paintings I wish to get my hands on in the very near future.  Have a nice week people.

Heading East

Wednesday July 14, 2010

Over the weekend, the Mister and I jumped in the whip and headed east to the beautiful state of Montana.  Since we are knee deep in wedding planning, we headed out to the spot where we will say ‘I do’ this coming August.  It is abut that time to tie all the loose ends for the Big Day.  I can’t even express how excited I am!  Everything is coming together amazingly.

The drive out to MT is beautiful.  They do not call Montana Big Sky Country for nothing.  I can’t help but dreaming of days when we will have some land, a couple horses, and infinite country skies.  Once you are out here, it is pretty easy to leave behind the hustle and bustle of the city in exchange for the peaceful scenery of the country.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Good Friday people.  Boy do I have something awesome to share with you.  My friend Katie just sent me over this link for a blog called Wear Palettes.  The blog has a section where it puts together color palettes based off street fashion shots.  It is all you need for your daily dose of color inspiration.  Check it out.  Have a fantabulous weekend!

P.S. Katie also works as a Holistic Health Counselor, so if you have any dietary concerns, food allergies, or just need someone to guide in the direction for nutritional health check out her website here for more information.

Indie Breakfast

Tuesday July 6, 2010

Oh the morning after the 4th.  I completely forgot that the rest of the world also had Monday the 5th off, so when the Mister and I headed out for breakfast it turned into a long adventure. We first tried to go to The Jam (totally packed), then Pambiche (stops serving breakfast at 11AM), and finally to Cricket Club where we just threw our names on list and put in a good 45 min wait for a table.  You got to do what you got to do in a town full of good food like Portland.

So, let me vent for one quick moment.  On this fine morning, my patience already tested due to my hunger level, some dude dining at Cricket Club had the bright idea to tie up his 2 dogs on the bike rack outside the restaurant.  Strike one in my book.  No one can use the bike rack in front of the restaurant now, cause the dogs are hogging it  up.  One of the dogs was an alpha dog.  He was mean.  He barked at everyone and wouldn’t let people comfortable pass on the side walk or even come near him.  It was 11:30 AM and I still hadn’t had my cup of coffee yet, so the loud barking did not make me any more thrilled.  Finally after 1/2 hour of this piece of crap dog bullying people around, I went into the restaurant, found the owner and asked him to move his dogs.  The darn dog was scaring this poor little baby.  So, I had to say something.  In the end, he moved his dogs, the people thanked me, we got our table and ate an amazing breakfast. The end.

Short Shorts

Thursday June 24, 2010

Who doesn’t love short shorts?  Summertime equals shorts and I am loving all the leg I am seeing around town.  Another high-five going out to American Apparel today.  I bought these high waisted short shorts from AA last summer and they are a staple in my summer go tos.  I freaking love these shorts. They are sexy, flattering, and comfortable.  Since I have short legs, shorts are no easy feat for me.  They can easily make my short legs look like little stubs.  Hence my fondness for shorts on the shorter side.  I am not talking on booty cheek showing short shorts people.  Just a little more on the short side to give those legs some length.  Oh so hot right now.

Fav Top

Wednesday June 23, 2010

I just picked an awesome summer top from American Apparel. It is perfect for high-waisted pants, skirts, and shorts.  AA calls it the Silky Loose Crop Tee.  It is simple and sassy.  Go check it out.

It is finally summer!  I am loving the blue skies and sunshine.  My friend Eva and I went up to Mt. Hood yesterday for some summer snowboarding and had the best time.  We put together a little Airblaster contest and activity together with High Cascade Snowboard Camp to promote the Airblaster women’s program.  It was so much fun and we had an awesome time shredding up on the hill with the campers summer style.  Eva is working on a complete story to put up on the Airblaster blog, so I will post a link to it once it is up on the Airblaster website.

Hope everyone’s summer is off to a rad start!

sock it

Wednesday June 16, 2010

Summer socks are just adorable.  Throwing on a pair of sweet, little socks, knee highs, or thigh highs, can take your outfit to a whole other level.  Here are my top suggestions on how to sock it up right this summer.

Number One- Light weight thigh highs with summer skirts and dresses.  Be mindful on your shoe choice because the wrong shoe can make this look appear a little tacky.  I would stick to oxford type shoes or even some tougher styled wedges (to keep classy not trashy, if you catch my drift).

Number Two- Little girly socks or slack socks with ladylike shoes, wedges, clogs, or chunky heels equals hot in my book.  The options here are endless.

I hope I have now given you some new inspiration when it comes to summer socks.  Do not be surprised if my next few posts feature some sassy shoe and sock combos.  I just can’t help myself.  I am just waiting for it to stop raining in Portland so I can wear a darn summer dress already!

she is back

Friday June 11, 2010

That is right my freinds, Heidi is back.  She was feeling pretty sick this past week.  So when she called me up feeling better and ready to hit the town,  we put on our finest and headed out to celebrate our good health.

Heidi was looking so cute in her little sundress, I just had to snap a few.  It has been “Junurary” around these parts, so the only way for those of us living up in the northwest to pull out our sundresses is to wear them with tights.  Seriously, this rain needs to stop already.  It has been worst this spring than all the winters combined.  My summer wardrobe has been aching to come out, but this darn rain just won’t stop.  I am so ready to wear shorts you do not even know.

Heidi is wearing floral dress from Target,  black tights, and black vintage boots.  That amazing big, black ring is made her.  You can see all of Heidi’s rings for sale on her blog here.

clogged

Wednesday June 9, 2010

I have totally jumped on the clog band wagon.  The trend of clogs is one that I am hot for right now.  I have been running these Jeffery Campbell ones for the past few weeks and I love em.       I feel like “Paula McFadden” in “The Goodbye Girl” (an amazing movie if you have yet to see it).  I especially love the clogs with my most favorite high waisted jeans.  I just couldn’t help myself today, I was all over the 70’s style.  Hope everyone is having a good week!

Pure Country

Thursday June 3, 2010

I watched one of my favorite movies the other day, Pure Country.  I freaking love this movie.  It makes me want to move out to the country, ride horses, make sun tea, and line dance.  George Straight plays “Dusty”  a super star country singer who wants to get back to his country roots.   All the “smoke and the lights” of his overdone concerts are cramping his true country style.   It is a darn good story of love, music, and staying true to your roots. And let me tell you what, George Straight is not so bad on the eyes either.

Well with the country on my mind, I was inspired.  Wearing vintage plaid jacket, vintage plaid button up shirt, Levi’s skinny jeans, my absolute favorite vintage boots, vintage sunglasses, and gold horseshoe necklace from Pin Me.

Oh my.  I just fell in love with a brand called Rosa Mosa.  They make beautiful shoes out of Austria that make your heart dance.  Here is a sneak peak of a few of my favorites from the S/S 10 line.   For all of you who live locally in Portland, one of my favorite boutiques called IDOM carries Rosa Mosa.  So head on over to NW 23rd to check out the shop.

When I saw Claire at a local cafe here in Portland, I immediately thought of Paris.  It was something about her look that took my imagination to a small cafe in France where the smell of freshly baked croissants and espresso filled the air.  I am not sure if it was her striking platinum hair, her shoes, or just the whole ensemble, but she was adorable.

aw to be back

Wednesday May 26, 2010

It feels so good to be back in Portland.  After 2 long weeks of traveling in China and an full day of plane rides back to the States, Portland air greeted me like a cold glass of ice water on a hot day. Northwest spring air is like no other; fresh, sweet, and brisk.  Even though we have bi-polar weather patterns (i.e. rain, sunshine, hail, sunshine, rain) during these wild spring months, it brings magical times like these. Awwww. I love this city!

out on Shanghai

Sunday May 23, 2010

Downtown Shanghai is awesome.  If you ever find yourself in Shanghai, China I recommend the Puxi side of the Huangpu River over the Pudong side.  Puxi lies to the west of the river and there is much more going on here as far as culture and entertainment.  Puxi is the older and more diverse part of the city.  On our last days in the city, the Mr. and I hit the streets to stroll around to check out the local architecture.  We also visited a really cool jewelery and art exhibit.  Fun times.

If you ever get the chance to venture to Shanghai, check out Design* Sponge’s city guide of Shanghai for where to shop and dine.

shanghai girl

Thursday May 20, 2010

Sad to say, I did not get to do much shopping or exploring while in Shanghai.  I also got nothing for you on Shanghai street style.  Sorry about that, but this trip was packed full of work and very little play.  However, I did stop into this one cute boutique in the French Quarter area of Shanghai and the girl working here was absolutely adorable.  I loved her style, especially her glasses with the large feather attached.  She told me her glasses were from a Hong Kong designer, but I did not catch the name.  She was nice enough to let me snap a photo, so here she is.  I also did not get her name, so I am calling her Shanghai Girl.  Maybe next time I visit Shanghai I will have more time to explore more of what the “Paris of the East” has to offer.

P.S. I picked up an amazing tulle and chiffon shawl (sounds tacky, but it is amazing) at the boutique, which I can’t wait to wear and show off!

i dig shanghai

Sunday May 16, 2010

Hello again from China!   This time my post comes to you from, Shanghai.  This city is full of life.  Art, fashion, culture, diversity; Shanghai has it all.

Jesse and are staying at an awesome “residence” near The Bund in downtown Shanghai.   The place is called Chai Living.  Chai Living is a unique way of “living” in the city.  It is one of the most amazing ways, I think, for a tourist to not feel like a tourist.  The designer of this “hotel” bought up small studios in an Art Deco Landmark called the Embankment Building.  The building was built in the 1930’s and is a bit run down, but  is probably the coolest place I have ever stayed.  Many local Shanghainese and some expats call the Embankment Building their home , so you really feel a part of the city rather than a tourist in a hotel.  Chai Living studios are scattered through out the apartment building, so you get a good look at local living.  It is truly unique and perfect!   Each studio has been renovated beautifully drawing inspiration from Chinese culture. We stayed in the Purple Crystal room.  Yep you guessed it, the room is inspired by a Chinese purple crystal. Here are photos of our room.  I am sad to leave, but off to a new locale for worky time.

Chompsticks

Thursday May 13, 2010

Welcome to China, people.  This a difficult place for me travel, or at least to eat.  I don’t eat meat (except fish), and am gluten intolerant which means no soy sauce for this gal.   No soy sauce and no meat means that I get to eat exactly… fish.  And more fish.  And maybe an occasional vegetable when I come across one that is not drenched in soy sauce (rare).  Funny story about this fish, it was delicious.  But when I came back from the bathroom, this undead Chinese pirana was eating my chopstick.

Little China Girl

Sunday May 9, 2010

chinagirl-1On the road again.  This time I am in China.  After 20 plus hours of travel, I made it in one piece.  I am a little delirious though.  I am trying to stay awake for a few more hours in order to put myself on the right time clock. That is the trick with avoiding jet lag you know.  To kill some time, I just had a great dinner at one of my favorite spots in Xiamen called Coyote Cafe.  It is Mexican food that is pretty decent for the Far East.  I had myself some tacos and a margarita to rid my memories of my post airplane food blahs.  I know it is a bit ironic that I hit this little Mexican food spot when visiting China, but since I am gluten intolerant Mexican food is the easiest menu to choose from (and they speak english here too).  Now I am full, happy and ready to catch some zzzzz’s and start my busy week off right.

This time around I have a 2 week trip planned and hope to get in a few blog post while I am here. I will be here in the Fujian Province for about a week and then I am heading up to Shanghai.  I am super excited to spend some time in Shanghai.  I have been there once, but it was so brief that I did not even get a moment to take it in.  Though I wish I was here on pleasure, it is strictly business.  So, I am not sure how many post I will be able to fit in.  Therefore, bear with me humans.

Hope your week starts of with a bang!

Train Sounds

Thursday April 29, 2010

I love the sound of a train horn in the distance.  It always seems that where I live, there are train tracks near by. You get used to the train horns during the night and it is some what comforting. When you sleep in more silent locales, you are left waiting to hear that familiar horn sound.  You kind of miss it.  These days, my office space is basically on the tracks.  As I mentioned in my first sentence, I love the sound of a train horn in the distance.  With a stress on “in the distance”. When you are right on the tracks, the horn has the most piercing sound to your ears.  It is a whole different ball game.  If you are talking on the phone when the train goes by, you have to put the call on hold.  It seriously blows doors down in this place.  Train sounds this close piss my ears off.

brooklyn part 1- Eat

Tuesday April 27, 2010

I am totally lagging on post of my Brooklyn trip adventures.  To be totally honest, I have very few photographs to choose from to put up on the ‘ol blog.  Kind of mad at myself for not taking more pictures, but I was so busy running all over the place it just slipped my mind.  Thank goodness for my mental images, but sorry I cannot beam them from my head to your heads for your viewing pleasure. Technology just has not come that far yet.  Not sure what the hold up is.  Geez humans, get with it.

So, I thought I would start off my Brooklyn post series by talking about one of my favorite things: FOOD!  I ate some darn good food in NYC.  Also, some not so good food.  If you ever make your way over to Brooklyn, here is my guide to eating out (from the point of view of a tourist.  I am sure if I were a New Yorker there would be a million more places to add to the list. But I am not, so deal with it).

Day One

Coffee at Variety Cafe (North Side Williamsburg Hood)-  My babe of a gal pal Jess works here. They serve Stumptown Coffee and the baristas kick bootay.  Order a cortado, they are magnificent.

Variety

Breakfast at Egg (Williamsburg Hood)- OH MAN!! This place was sooooo good.  They have their own farm where they grow veggies and raise some animals for the restaurant.  They pride themselves on sourcing from local farms and businesses and you can taste it in the quality.  I ordered their organic grits and eggs. It came with a side of seasonal kale that was steamed and sauteed to perfection.  Washed it down with a fresh squeezed mimosa;  it was truly amazing.

Dinner at My Moon (Williamsburg Hood)-  Eh. this place was ok.  They had a nice patio area that would be amazing to have drinks at in the warmer months, but other than that this place was nothing to write home about.

Day Two

Late Breakfast at Brooklyn Label (Greenpoint Hood)- Also serving Stumptown Coffee, I enjoyed this little cafe.  I went simple here; over easy eggs and hash browns.  The hash browns were made from scratch and were delicious.  I believe they make their own hot sauce, which was some good, HOT stuff.  It was some of the best hot sauces to hit these lips in awhile.

Dinner at The General Green (Fort Greene Hood)- This place was heaven.  Especially for a Gluten Free gal like myself.  They had tons of fresh food to choose from.  Kate and Jess ordered a hamburger and said it was one of the best they have ever had.  Kate keeps talking about that hamburger even though we have been back in Portland for a week now.  Jess, who lives near by, could not stop talking about their candied bacon (served at breakfast).  This was one of my favorite spots in Brooklyn.

Day Three

Brunch at River Barrel (Greenpoint Hood)- Have you ever had the Korean dish Bibimbap?  If not, you must try it.  It is rice, veggies, and an egg that comes in hot stone bowl.  The rice that is touching the sides of the bowl gets all brown and crispy.  I was so happy to see this dish on the menu and about back flipped over it. River Barrel serves American comfort food and some traditional Korean dishes.  Yummy stuff.

Dinner at Shabu-Tatsu (East Village,Manhattan)- Japanese Hot Pot, how can you go wrong.  You cook your own veggies, meat, and noodles in a broth which intensifies with flavor as the meal progresses.  Don’t laugh, but since I loooove Bibimbap so much, I ordered it for dinner too. I could not help myself. I wanted to taste the Japanese version which reads and is pronounced Bibim-bop.  I will tell you what, it was just as darn delicious as my Korean version early that day.  Order shochu on the rocks with the salted plum to top the whole meal off.

Drinks at Sake Bar Decibel- an underground sake bar that seems like a secret spot, but it is not. The place was packed.  I went for their Lychee Martinis because I don’t get to have them that often back in Portland.  But their sake list is glorious.

Day Five

Lunch at Lomzynianka (Greenpoint Hood)- The cutest Polish restaurant ever.  Serving slavic comfort food, this little place is worth the stop.  The atmosphere was sweet and the food was delicious.

photoThe decor at Lomzynianka was pretty amazing.
